San Diego Padres vs. Chicago Cubs: Preston’s Best Bet

San Diego Padres (34-21) are at classic Wrigley Field for a National League battle against the Chicago Cubs (30-23). At the time of this write-up it’s 64 Degree Fahrenheit, 51% Humidity and wind is blowing 7mph in from right field. Game starts at 7:05 PM CT.

Padres have cooled off in their last two games after a hot month of May. Chicago Cubs used last month to turn their season around after an abysmal first half of the year. Padres send one of their best up and comers to the mound today in LHP Ryan Weathers. Weathers is a bit of a raw talent but the upside is apparent. Weathers bolsters a 2W-1L record, 1.31 ERA, 27 Strikeouts and 11 Walks. Cubs will send RHP Kyle Hendricks to the mound for the start. Hendricks holds a 5W-4L record, 4.63 ERA, 47 Strikeouts and 11 Walks.

Hendricks has struggled against left-handed hitters in 109 plate appearances this season. Left-handed hitters hold a .366 batting average and a .407 on base percentage against Hendricks this year. Padres have two left-handed batters and two switch hitters projected to start in today’s batting order.

I believe the 7-2 whopping from the Cubs yesterday woke this Padres team up for today’s game. I don’t want to be left holding the bag at the end of a National League game. National League games tend to get competitive at the end.
