Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators: Preston’s Best Bet

Montreal Canadiens (24-18-9) head into the Canadian Tire Centre to duel on the ice against the Ottawa Senators (20-27-5). Both teams have racked up a number of injuries this season. For the Canadiens: Shea Weber, Tomas Tatar, Paul Byron, and Carey Price are all listed as Day-to-Day on the injury report. For the Senators Anton Forsberg could return tonight. Matt Murray is listed as Day-to-Day and Austin Watson is listed as Week-to-Week. While Joey Daccord remains out indefinitely. Reminder: check the updated injury news as it rolls out.

The Line: Montreal Canadiens (-156) vs. Ottawa Senators (+142)

The sharp money will shift this line to a near pick’em before puck drop tonight. Including any good news on Forsberg. One particular stat I like to compare teams with is power play and penalty kill percentages. Canadiens ranks 16th overall in power play %. Opposed to the Senators which rank 26th overall in power play opportunities. On the flip side of things Senators rank higher at killing the penalty ranking 19th overall. Opposed to the Canadiens who rank 22nd overall. Taking this analysis a step further, we have two teams not reaching the power play enough and Neither team excelling with their penalty kill %.

The last nugget for you is the Canadiens have a 4-7-2-2 record after a win on one day’s rest. While the Senators have a 6-6 record after a win on one day’s rest.
