The Line: Indiana Pacers (-130) vs. Charlotte Hornets (+110)
The Indiana Pacers bolstering a 10(W)-7(L) record roll into the Spectrum Center. Facing off against a young and hungry Charlotte Hornets team with a record of 7(W)-10(L).
The Pacers have a great core with (PF) Domantas Sabonis (listed as questionable tonight), (PG) Michael Brogdon, and (C) Myles Turner. They are also getting solid minutes from their role players. Namely, (PG) Aaron Holiday and (SG) Jeremy Lamb. Pacers have an (6-4) record going over the point total set by oddsmakers this season.
This Charlotte Hornets unit comes to compete hard every night. They aren’t the flashy team or star studded lineup like other Eastern Conference foes. However, they can shoot the lights out. For instance, (SG) Devonte’ Graham has been coming on strong lately. (PG) Terry Rozier is beginning to catch fire from long-range. (PG) LaMelo Ball has played big minutes and is in the running for NBA Rookie of The Year! LaMelo will be a problem for opposing defenses for years to come. At 6’7″ tall and around 180lbs he is already playing bigger than he is. Plus Hornets head coach James Borrego has already spoken to the media about who he likes to group LaMelo with. You almost forget about huge acquisition (SF) Gordon Hayward being on the roster after watching the other Hornets players take shots. Hornets have an (11-9) record going over the point total set by oddsmakers this season. ESPN’s Basketball Power Index gives the Charlotte Hornets an edge to win this game with a 54.1% chance.
Pacers rank 9th in pace opposed to the Hornets who rank 17th. I believe with Sabonis out that would increase the pace from both teams. However, their is a good probability Sabonis plays and that would be the best option for us and the Pacers. Pacers move the ball extremely well and with that uptempo playing style I anticipate a lot of points raining in from them tonight. Hornets aren’t dealing with any injuries and they are a fluid team moving the ball on offense. I like the firepower in this game from both sides. Based on expected offensive rating and expected offensive pace the point total should equal out north of the 220 line set by oddsmakers.
My wager: OVER 220 Total Points (-110)
