NFL MNF: Chiefs vs. Ravens Preview and Predictions

The Line: Kansas City Chiefs (+150) vs. Baltimore Ravens (-170).

Game of the year potential with both of these teams stepping on the field against one another. The mighty Ravens rushing attack stacked up against the Super Bowl Defending Champion Chiefs.

Rushing advantage:

According to ESPN Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson leads the ravens backfield in rushing with 99 yards. This is a mind-boggling statistic for a Ravens team who has won both of their first two games in marvelous fashion. Beating the Cleveland Browns 38-6, and the Houston Texans 33-16. The committee approach in the backfield has paid dividends for the Ravens offense. Bolstering running backs Mark Ingram ll, J.K. Dobbins, and Gus Edwards as the most lethal backfield in all of the NFL. This will be a true test for a Chiefs defense which has given up 301 yards on the ground through two games according to ESPN. Kansas City Chiefs rushing attack is Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s job primarily. According to ESPN Edwards-Helaire is averaging 88 yards rushing per game. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes can scramble better than most quarterbacks but Lamar Jackson has made it his job to run the ball. Baltimore Ravens earn my edge in the ground game tonight.

Passing advantage:

Both of these quarterbacks can make all of the high-level throws you want your starter to be able to complete. According to ESPN Patrick Mahomes leads the the Chiefs with 513 passing yards through two games. Mahomes has an elite wide receiver in Tyreek Hill. Dual red zone threats in wide receiver Sammy Watkins, and tight end Travis Kelce. Wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman along with lead running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire all pitching in catching the ball from Mahomes. The Ravens have a band of underrated receivers led by Marquise Brown, Willie Snead lV, and Miles Boykin. A great tight end in Mark Andrews and a three-headed monster in the backfield that can all get involved in the aerial assault. Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson has 479 yards passing through two games according to ESPN. Kansas City Chiefs earn my edge in the passing game tonight.

Greater defense:

By looking at the front-seven on the defensive side of the ball you can start to see where a team’s strengths and weaknesses are. According to ESPN Kansas City Chiefs are allowing opponents to out pass them by 23 yards per game. Also Chiefs are being out rushed by opponents by 5 yards per game. That may not sound like a lot but they are up against a Ravens team that has a better offense than both of the Chiefs last two opponents. The Ravens defense has been steadfast in it’s approach to stifling opponents ground games. According to ESPN the Baltimore Ravens are out rushing teams by 76 yards per game. Baltimore Ravens are also out passing teams by 13 yards per game. Baltimore Ravens defense has only given up 189 yards rushing in two games. Opposed to the Kansas City Chiefs who have given up 301 yards rushing in two games according to ESPN. Baltimore Ravens have given up 210.5 passing yards per game opposed to the Chiefs 269 yards passing surrendered. Baltimore Ravens earn my edge on the defensive side of the ball tonight.

My picks: (Player prop) Mark Andrews Anytime TD Scorer (+120). A big reason I like this prop is because Andrews is 6’5″ making him hard to guard in the red zone. Andrews has scored both his touchdowns this season at home. All the talk about Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce although well deserved, should fire Andrews up to put on a great performance and cash this for us tonight.

OVER 54.5 Total Points (-110). Too much fire power and I’d hate to be on the wrong side of it. When it comes to these teams the points don’t always have to come from the offense.

FINAL SCORE: Ravens def. Chiefs 38-35.
