An NFC South match-up so tasty you might skip the gumbo. Well, one bowl of gumbo won’t hurt. Tom Brady vs. Drew Brees. An epic showdown that will be talked about for a long time to come. Tampa Bay ranked 1st in passing yards last season. While New Orleans ranked 7th. Although Tampa Bay accomplished that with Jameis Winston at quarterback. Tom Brady will continue to throw the ball a boat load during this game. Both defenses don’t defend the pass well. Buccaneers ranked almost dead last in passing yards given up per game. While the Saints were not much better ranking 20th in passing yards given up per game.
Where these defenses shine is against the rushing attack. Buccaneers ranked 1st in stopping the run last season. Opposed to the Saints who ranked 4th best in the NFL at stopping the run. Both teams will be trying to set the tone with the run game. Expect both quarterbacks to pick up the slack if the run game doesn’t get going. I have a hard time seeing Saints running back Alvin Kamara not getting going today. The Buccaneers lost defensive lineman Gerald McCoy in the off-season and it will be interesting to see how they overcome that loss inside. The Buccaneers will use a committee approach at running back. With a nice trio in the backfield the Buccaneers will be feeding whoever is performing well. We talked about the Saints being good at stopping the run. Factor in the swing routes, and screens out of the backfield the Buccaneers are almost certainly going to attempt. That will be an added dynamic to this game that will be interesting to see how the Saints defend against it.
A lot of talented weapons on the field today. Firepower from both quarterbacks and a lot of intensity in a divisional game.
My best bet: OVER 47.5 (-110). The line was created at 49 and went as high as 50. It has fluctuated but I feel confident with the over here.
