First bout on the main card: Mounir Lazzez def. Abdul Razak Alhassan by UD. Fight lived up to the hype. Alhassan looked strong early in the first round and toward the end of the fight went for the knockout. In the middle and bulk of it all Lazzez was out striking him and doing it in style. Lazzez showed his talents and proved he deserves a bump in competition. Don’t be surprised if we see Alhassan rather sooner than later.
Second bout on the main card: Taila Santos def. Molly McCann by UD. Santos dominated this fight from start to finish. She was the fresher fighter every round and gave McCann no chance. McCann did hold on for a decision loss after coming close to being finished; which is worth noting.
Third bout on the main card: Jimmie Rivera def. Cody Stamann by UD. Rivera took this fight on short notice and pulled off a huge career altering win. Stamann wishes he had a rematch clause here. Rivera stopped Stamann from taking him down multiple times and kept Stamann fighting his game. Stamann was in this one for the long haul but didn’t do enough to warrant a win on the judges score cards.
Co-main event: Time Elliott def. Ryan Benoit by UD. What? Unanimous decision? I am starting to realize more and more the judges are unpredictable. Our eyes tell us Benoit was visibly doing more damage to Elliott; at one point almost dropping him. However, in Elliott’s defense; he was physical the entire fight and landed a significantly larger volume of strikes. Benoit appeared to win the majority of the exchanges between the two. Credit to Elliott for hanging tough in the pocket and grinding out a win against a stronger opponent.
Main event: Calving Kattar def. Dan Ige by UD. Ige has the power but didn’t show up in the championship rounds like he needed to. Kattar was happy landing more strikes and winning on points. Ige would land good solid strikes. Instead of following it up he played Kattar’s game a bit more than needed. Ige impressed me in the first two rounds more than Kattar. By the third round Ige was fading and Kattar was picking his shots. Not the explosive main event we were looking for but it was better than Saturday’s main event by a long shot.
