NBA MVP Race In Dead Heat

With little to no time left before the 2017 NBA playoffs begin.  A number of front-runners come to mind when thinking about NBA MVP.  James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard, Isaiah Thomas, and John Wall. The field has been narrowed down to 2.

What it comes down to is Westbrook vs Harden for this years crown. These very last few games matter more in the on going battle for the MVP. It is down to percentages and flat out performance in these lasting games to pad the stats of the front-runners. A lasting impression will leave the undecided MVP voters swing in favor of who controls the final stretch better Harden or Westbrook. My money is on both these able men willing their own destiny.

Both are flat out players, showing up every night to prove it. James Harden missing only 3 games total from 2 years ago until this point. He tells his coach Mike D’antoni not to sit him. It’s more than pride or reputation to me that’s strong character. You see it raise his teammates awareness that we are one unit together. Most recently Patrick Beverley speaking out on players taking games off. When guys take days off I personally don’t have a problem with it but I see the direct correlation between these guys that don’t, getting mad at the ones who do.

I will defend getting many double-doubles as being not important, it just plain doesn’t matter. Heck at an NBA level a player on every dang team should be averaging a double-double a game. Point is  having the most triple-doubles is in no way shape or form something to gloss over. It is a real cold hard fact, It’s remarkable.

There is no slam dunk for NBA MVP this season. My vote is going to James Harden. If James Harden and Russell Westbrook share the MVP then so be it. I do not however see Westbrook getting the MVP solely.
